Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the ongoing crisis in the judiciary would be resolved in a few days.
In a meeting with the representatives of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Friday, Prime Minister Deuba assured that the dispute would be resolved shortly. In the meet, a team of NBA representatives had briefed the Prime Minister about the current dispute in the judiciary.
“PM Deuba has assured that he would hold a serious conversation with the coalition parties and provide a solution to the issue,” said Chandeshwor Shrestha, chairman of the NBA. “On the issues raised by the law practitioners, Prime Minister Deuba said that all the issues would be addressed after consulting with the coalition parties,” said Shrestha, adding, “We have informed the PM that resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana is the only option left to resolve the crisis.”
Chairman Shrestha added that the NBA, by representing 20,000 law practitioners across the nation, had drawn the Prime Minister’s attention towards the month-long protest against the corruption and irregularities existing in the judiciary.
“We have also reminded the Prime Minister of the role of the House of Representatives (HoR) members as per the Constitution to solve the dispute,” said Shrestha. The representatives also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister.
Law practitioners across the nation have been staging demonstrations for the last one month demanding the resignation of CJ Rana.
