The COVID-19 infection rate, which has been rising daily for the last one week, has reached 27 per cent on Wednesday. The rate was 18 per cent on Tuesday, 15 per cent on Monday, 9.5 per cent on Sunday and 7.1 per cent on Saturday.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, Dr. Sangita Kaushal Mishra, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), informed that the infection rate had increased by 13 per centage points in comparison to the last week.
Dr. Mishra requested one and all to be vigilant as the daily infection rate was rising in Nepal and asked all to stay in quarantine for at least five days if contacted with infected people. One needs to go for test if any symptoms of COVID-19 persist, informed Dr. Mishra.
Dr. Mishra asked everyone to adhere to the public health protocols and requested the people not to make crowds and hold gatherings.
According to Dr. Mishra, among 13,036 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 9,051 were RT-PCR tests and 3,985 were antigen tests.
The MoHP on Wednesday recorded 3,075 new cases of COVID-19. Of them, 2,448 were detected through PCR tests and 627 through antigen tests.
According to the MoHP, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,538 new infections over that period. Of these, 1,128 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 124 in Bhaktapur and 236 in Lalitpur. Meanwhile, 278 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection during that period.
The country also reported two deaths related to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11,609, said Dr. Mishra.
The active caseload has reached 11,690 on Wednesday. Of the active cases, 880 patients are admitted to various health facilities while remaining 10,810 are in home isolation, informed Dr. Mishra.
Similarly, 87 individuals infected with the virus are being treated in intensive care units across the country. Similarly, another 22 patients are receiving treatment with ventilator support, informed Dr. Mishra.
The MoHP informed that of the total population, 15,330,046 people had received their first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and that 11,469,678 had received their full dose as of Wednesday. In total, 214,057 people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
The MoHP has administered 26,799,724 doses of vaccines against COVID-19, so far. The MoHP has asked the entire target group to reach the nearest vaccination centre and receive the jab.
