Death Toll From Disasters Reaches 94: Home Ministry


The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by the post-monsoon rains has reached 94.
According to the latest update by the Home Ministry Thursday evening, Province 1 saw the highest deaths at 57 followed by Sudurpaschim with 29 deaths. Likewise, Karnali saw seven deaths and Bagmati one.

Among the districts in Province 1, Panchthar recorded the highest number of deaths at 28 followed by Ilam with 13 deaths.
Likewise, seven deaths were reported from Dhankuta, five from Sunsari, two from Udayapur and one each from Morang and Bhojpur.

In Sudurpaschim, Doti saw the highest death at 16 followed by Bajhang with eight fatalities. Four died in Baitadi and one in Dadeldhura.
Similarly, Humla in Karnali recorded six deaths and Kalikot one.
However, the records of the Home Ministry contradicted with the records of the Nepal Police which reported 101 deaths at 2 pm on Thursday.
According to Nepal Police, Province 1 saw 60 deaths and Sudurpaschim 31. Likewise, the police said 40 were injured in the rain-induced disasters in the last five days whereas the Home Ministry put their number only at 32.
