Dengue death toll reaches 57, over 51,100 infected


Five more deaths from dengue have been reported across the country. With this, the death toll from dengue infection rises to 57.

According to the report of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), 57 dengue-inflicted deaths have been reported nationwide so far in a total of 51,177 cases reported this year.

Out of the top 10 districts reporting dengue cases, the highest numbers of cases reported from Kathmandu (13787), Lalitpur (9522), Bhaktapur (5489), Makawanpur (5347), Chitwan (2627), Dang (2388), Dhading (1411) and Rupandehi(1195).

As per the report obtained from EDCD, in Nepal, dengue is a rapidly emerging disease. Vector surveillance conducted in three districts, Dang, Lalitpur and Kathmandu districts, have demonstrated the presence of the vector Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus. All four dengue serotypes exist in Nepal, with DENV-1 and 2, historically contributing the highest burden.
