There has been a huge loss of life and property in Bara and Parsa due to severe storm on Sunday evening. Although the national news agency has reported of only 4 deaths, however other news outlets have reported of more than 30 deaths. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has tweeted that 25 have died and more than 400 have been injured. He also tweeted that rescue team would be sent in the early morning and during the night time night vision helicopter would be used for rescue if weather is better.
Even though rain was forecasted, the severe storm was not predicted. One person was killed in the remote Harbadiya of Parsa while three died in different locations of Bara, according to the District Police Office.
Another 120 are reported to be injured in various locations of the two districts and many of them are undergoing treatment at local medical centres including the Narayan Sub-regional hospital. A significant amount of property was also destroyed as houses were damaged as a result of the windstorm.
Local police and army personnel as well as local residents are involved in the rescue work.
