Dharahara likely to be inaugurated on April 24

The reconstruction of Dharahara tower in Kathmandu is in its final stages and plans are underway to inaugurate the tower on April 24.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Sushil Gyawali, preparation is underway for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to inaugurate the tower.

After accomplishment of most of the reconstruction works to restore historical heritage sites damaged by 25 April, 2015 earthquake, NRA is all set to prepare a decade-long mega campaign for building disaster risk free Nepal, CEO Gyawali added.

The 18th meeting of the NRA’s Direction Committee, led by its chairperson and prime minister KP Sharma Oli, on Tuesday decided to prepare the project proposal in collaboration with the NRA’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to initiate the campaign next year.

On the occasion, PM Oli said the success of post-quake reconstruction in Nepal was something ‘worth showcasing’.

The meeting has also decided to chart out a proposal on long-term reconstruction programme of urban areas keeping into consideration the reconstruction of antique settlement and world heritage sites, including the Kathmandu Valley, and take it ahead through upcoming fiscal year’s budget and programme.
