Dolakha children’s home in dilapidated condition

Gauri Shankar Children Home of Dolakha has been in a dilapidated condition since the 2015 earthquake, which developed cracks on its wall. Children Organisation Dolakha, which took the responsibility of the building, has neither built a new building nor repaired the dilapidated one.

The children home was inaugurated on November 15, 1996 by former acting Prime Minister and Labour Minister Bal Bahadur Rai.

The children home with cracked walls and windows is not safe during storms, hurricane and rainfall. Despite the risks, 25 orphans are now living in the home.

Earlier, private schools were admitting the orphans to their schools when foreign donations used to pour in. But now none of them are studying in private schools. They are studying in government schools.

Former president of Children Organisation Rakesh Shrestha said that the vehicle granted by the Netherlands government to ferry orphans to and from schools was taken to the centre of the organisation later.

He said that many orphans who took shelter in the children home in the past had become doctors, high level government employees and officials of the political parties.

Ishwor Dahal, president of Children Organisation, said that the orphans from Humla, Jumla, Dolpa and other districts are now residing in the children home spread in over 80 ropanis of land.

He informed that the children home is facing drinking water problem and funding for its smooth operation.
