With the final verdict of the Supreme Court, Dr Toshima Karki can participate as a candidate in the upcoming November 20 election.
Supreme Court has maintained the candidacy of Dr Toshima, who is contesting for a House of Representatives seat from Lalitpur-3 under Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Election Commission (EC) had earlier disqualified Toshima to be an election candidate citing she holds an office of benefit since she is an elected member of the Nepal Medical Council.
After that, Dr Toshima Karki sought help from Supreme Court against the cancellation of her candidature.
On the hearing of the petition filed by the EC, demanding the cancellation of Toshima’s candidature, the Supreme Court continued the interim order given earlier to maintain her candidacy.
The joint bench of Judge Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Til Prasad Shrestha concluded there is no evidence to assume that Toshima is holding an office of benefit.
With less than a week for the election, Toshima’s election candidature was in jeopardy before this decision.
