Election Commission, Nepal has requested industrialists and businessmen to support in promoting voter education for the election of the members of House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies to be held on November 20, this year.
The Commission made this request by organising an interaction with the private sector in the context of the ‘House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies Member Elections 2022′ at the Commission’s office in Kantipath Tuesday.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, in the programme attended by various leading organisations and individuals of the private sector, requested businessmen to transmit Commission’s information and messages through their information transmission mechanism under ‘Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)’.
He also requested them to join the Commission’s social network and support the voter education, code of conduct and election-related information and messages produced by the Commission through their organisational mechanisms and social networks.
Stating that the support of businessmen is important for the country and democracy, he requested to facilitate the employees working in their respective organisations to vote.
Analysing the facts that the country’s economy is currently in a very difficult situation, he expressed his belief that there will be a change in this environment after the election.
“Now we hear about situations like liquidity crunch, increase in interest rates and shrinking savings. Will these cause businessmen to be displaced from the business?” Thapaliya said, adding, “It has some kind of relationship with the election as well. It should also help to ease this difficult situation after the election.”
He analysed that the expenditure on elections is unproductive from the practice of the world, and sought apology on behalf of the Commission if businessmen were affected while making the elections economic.
Chief Commissioner Thapaliya informed that homework was being done on the matter of allowing vehicles in emergency areas as well as other vehicles to operate in managed and controlled manner on the basis of necessity and propriety on the day of voting.
Officiating president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Dhakal expressed his happiness that the Commission also remembered the private sector in making the election a success.
He expressed his commitment to help implement the request of the Commission through their network.
Mentioning that in the previous local elections there were many election marks on the ballot paper so voters were confused about voting correctly, he expressed his belief that the change made by the EC in the ballot paper this time would bring good results.
Vice president of the FNCCI Anjan Shrestha asked to allow businessmen to use their vehicles on the day of voting and to give them responsibility as observers.
