EC reminds enabling environment for election campaign


The Election Commission of Nepal has drawn the attention of the concerned ones yet again to create enabling environment where any political party or candidate could run election campaign unobstructed.

The Commission on November 8 had also instructed the district administration offices in all 77 districts to enable environment for the political parties and candidates contesting the November 20 parliamentary elections to run election campaign freely and at his/her discretion. It had instructed the concerned bodies to ensure safety and security to the election staffers, observers and voters and make sure the election is held in fair, free an impartial manner and in peaceful environment.

In a press statement issued by the Commission on Sunday after the news of disrupting election campaign following the dispute ensued among the candidates and vandalizing vehicles in Chitwan and some other districts began to do rounds in various media as well as social media and said that its attention was drawn towards the issue.

According to the press statement issued by Kamal Bhattarai, Deputy Spokesperson of the Commission, the Commission said that it drew the attention of the Ministry of Home Affairs yet again and instructed to create enabling environment for the election candidates to run election campaign freely and voters to cast their ballot without any fear.

The local administrations have also been asked to not allow any election campaign in public places without obtaining permission from them. Citing the clause 13 (b and f) of Election Code of Conduct-2079BS, the Commission said that if more than one political parties or their sister organizations or candidates were organizing election rally, mass rally, corner meeting among others, the local administration should instruct them to alter their programme venue or route so as to avoid conflicts.(RSS)
