EC sends letter to parties asking to pick PR candidates by Saturday

The Election Commission (EC) has sent a letter to the seven political parties asking them to recommend the names to be picked as members of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies under the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system based on the seats they won.

The EC on Wednesday sent a letter to the respective political parties, which have crossed the threshold to be recognised as national parties, to recommend the names of the PR candidates from among those included in the closed list they had submitted earlier.

“After determining the number of seats to be obtained by the political parties based on the votes they received under PR system, the Election Commission has asked the respective parties to recommend the names by fulfilling the requirement of inclusive representation,” said EC’s Assistant Spokesperson Guru Prasad Wagle.

Wagle said the letter was sent informing the political parties about the seats they had won in the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies under PR system in the November 20 general elections.
