Work to improve the electricity transmission and distribution system has begun in eight districts of Province 2.
Foundation stone of the substation to be constructed in Bardibas Municipality-2 of Mahottari under the Rural Electrification and Distribution System Strengthening Project run by Nepal Electricity Authority was laid on Friday.
Project coordinator Bodhraj Dhakal and Chief of Provincial Office, Janakpur under Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, NEA Munindra Thakur jointly laid the foundation of the substation.
Through the project, the power distribution system of Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa districts of Province 2 will be strengthened, rehabilitated and fully electrified, read a press statement of the NEA.
To make the power supply in the eight districts reliable and qualitative, 10 substations of 33/11 kV capacity with modern equipment will be constructed.
In addition, 323 circuit kilometers 33 kV transmission line, 950 circuit kilometers 11 kV line, 1,000 circuit kilometers 400-volt new line and 500 new distribution transformers of different capacities will be connected, said NEA.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Ward Chairman of Bardibas Municipality-2 Chola Raj Pyakurel expressed confidence that the consumers would be able to consume reliable and quality electricity after the construction of the substation.
Stating that electricity is being distributed through old and run-down structures in many places of the districts of Province 2, Thakur said that the old and run-down structures will be replaced through the project and all the districts will be fully electrified.
Coordinator Dhakal said that the distribution system was being radically changed in Province 2 by paying attention to the standardisation of power distribution line, additional capacity expansion of agricultural and industrial lines.
The project being implemented through the NEA’s Project Management Directorate has been divided into five lots.
Construction of all lots has been carried out simultaneously, NEA said.
A contract worth around Rs. 4 billion was signed between NEA and construction company Tata Project for the construction of the project last April.
