Taplejung, a Himalayan district, will be electrified within next two years. The work of electrification will be completed throughout the district within two years by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The meeting of the stakeholders held at the headquarters Phungling in coordination with the NEA, Taplejung Distribution Centre has decided to provide access to electricity throughout the district within next two years. The NEA is to carry out a plan to supply electricity from the national transmission line to every household and each ward of the district. Electrification work can be done within two years even in remote areas in the district, which has nine local levels, including one municipality and eight rural municipalities.
Until now, the electricity of the national transmission line has reached some places of the Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality and Phungling Municipality.
Although electricity facilities have reached in some wards and villages of the remaining local levels, electricity has not reached most areas of the district.
Bijay Prakash Wanem, Chairman of Maiwakhola Rural Municipality, said that it has been decided to electrify within two years in the areas that are yet to have access to electricity. According to him, the suitable places of each local level for the installation of transformers have been selected for electrification. It has also been decided to speed up the electrification work that had started earlier if there was a delay.
Apart from some villages, all 11 wards of Phungling Municipality, six wards of Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality have been supplied electricity from the national transmission line.
Similarly, the NEA has said that the electricity from the national transmission line has reached in Mikwakhola Rural Municipality-1 and 2, Sidingwa Rural Municipality-4, Sablakhu and Sinam of Sirijangha Rural Municipality and others.
Similarly, the Authority said that electricity has been extended to some wards of Maiwakhola Rural Municipality, Aatharai Tribeni, Meringden, and Phaktanglung Rural Municipality.
According to the NEA, electrification work is continuing in some wards of the district.
