Farmers Happy As Tomatoes Get Good Price

Farmers in Sarlahi are happy as they got a good price for the tomatoes.
The farmers have been selling tomatoes at Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 1,300 for a crate. A crate consists of 25kg tomatoes. “We got a good price for the tomatoes this year and earned an adequate profit,” said Bhim Bahadur Gole, a farmer.

The rate has allowed the farmers to gain Rs. 48 to 52 in profit from one kilogram of tomatoes.
Meanwhile, the farmers informed that post-monsoon rain had affected tomato production this year. However, they earned a good profit from the cultivated tomatoes.

Tomatoes are produced locally in Sarlahi from December to April. Mostly the southern areas – Lalbandi, Pattharkot, Hirapur, Raniganj, Nawalpur, Sasapur, Hariwon, Atrauli and Ghurkauli – are the major producers of tomatoes.
Lalbadni, Nawalpur and Hariwon are the major markets for farmers to bring their tomatoes.
Every day, a number of farmers arrive with crates of tomatoes.

“The tomatoes brought by farmers are still not enough to meet the demand,” said Mohammad Usman, a vegetable shop owner in Lalbandi.
Tomatoes of Sarlahi reach Hetauda, Pokhara, Narayangadh, Kathamndu and Sindhuli as well.
