Finance Ministry Sets Aside Rs. 8.11 Bln For Local Poll


The Ministry of Finance has set aside a budget of Rs. 8.11 billion for holding the local level election slated for May 13, the Election Commission (EC) informed.
Speaking at a regular press conference on Thursday, EC spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said that the Ministry has confirmed the budget of Rs. 8.11 billion so far.
Earlier the Commission had asked the Ministry of Finance to release the budget of Rs. 8.952 billion for holding the local poll. However, the ministry only secured the budget of Rs. 8.11 billion for the poll.

The Commission has given a deadline till March 10 to correct any error in the voter list, including inclusion of names by giving false information, to maintain only one place if the names are included in more than one and remove the names of voters who have died or renounced their citizenship.
The Commission is making the voter list public on March 4 through the ward office of the municipality, district election office and its website, said Poudel.

He further informed that the names of the political parties participating at the local level would also be published within March 10.
Stating that 80 parties have been registered in the Commission for the local elections, Poudel said the applications of those parties have been investigated.
The Commission also informed that the list of chief electoral officers and election officers to be deployed at the local level has also been received from the concerned bodies and the investigation is underway.
