Gamblers Arrested From Hotel In Capital


Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested 25 gamblers along with cash Rs. 1.1 million from a gambling den set up inside a hotel in Kathmandu on Tuesday night.
Acting upon a special tip off, the police raided Hotel Phewa Darshan run by Pitambar Gautam in Bahati Pokhari in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16. He is also among the arrested. They seized the cash amount alongside 300 book cards and 250 coins used for playing the cards.
The Police have prepared to file charge sheet under Gambling Act 1963, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Kumar Basnet. “Taking advantage of restriction order in the Valley, the group was found making the hotel a gambling den and based upon public complaint, we raided the hotel on Tuesday evening,” SP Basnet said.
“We will also take action against them for violating Local Administration Act, which is breaching of COVID-19 health protocols, issued by District Administration Office, Kathmandu,” SP Basnet, who is also spokesperson for the Range, said.
The arrested have been identified as Kanu Pradhan, 48, permanent resident of Odisha, India, and now residing temporarily in Lagantol, Kathmandu, Ranjana Dhakal, 37, of KMC-16, Purushottam Neupane, 47, of Banepa-6, Kavre, Manoj Kumar Mandal of Lorpati Rural Municipaltiy-2 in Mahottari district, Umesh B.K, 26, of Durgathali Rural Municipality in Bajhang district, Bijay Karki, 45, of Panchkhal-3 in Kavre, Jagat Bahadur Gurung, 47, of Chitwan-11, Nabindra Kumar Gurung of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-2 in Morang district, and Sushant Ghale, 31, of Sindhupalchowk.
Similarly, police have detained Jyoti Prakash Shrestha, 52, of KMC-29, Kathmandu, Birkh Bahadur Thing, 37, of Tistung in Makwanpur, Padam Bahadur Tamang, 35, of Rorang Rural Municipality-2 in Dhading, Shankar Mali, 42, of Lagankhel in Lalitpur, Rameshwar Gautam, 40, of Changunarayan in Bhaktapur, Ramkrishna Waiba, 26, of Makwanpur, Chhiring Sherpa, 28, of Jiri in Dolakha district, Minsang Lama, 33, of Kavre district, Anil Sedhai, 30 of Lalitpur district, and Ram Adhikari, 55, of Tarkeshwar Municipality-11 in Kathmandu,
Likewise, police nabbed Tenzing Lama, 37, of Mugu, Gyalchhen Lama, 38, of Kathmandu-16, Chhiring Lama, 35, of Bardaghat Municipality-2 in Nawalparasi district, Jyoti Thapa, 38, of Lubhu Municipality in Lalitpur district, and Bal Bahadur Raut, 40, Nagarjun Municipality-3.
