Gorkhapatra Corporation Announces Journalism Awards


On the occasion of the 121st anniversary of Gorkhapatra, the oldest Newspaper of Nepal and on the occasion of the 6th National Journalism Day, the corporation has announced different prizes for senior and active journalists working for the corporation.
This year, Shreeom Shrestha ‘Rodan’, litterateur, senior journalist and former acting chief editor of the Gorkhapatra Daily and Madhuparka Monthly, has been awarded with the National Journalism Prize.
The board of the corporation established the prize carrying a purse of Rs. 55,555 after the government of Nepal declared to celebrate Baisakh 24 as National Journalism Day.
Likewise, Ram Kumar Basnet, document officer working in attendance section, has been awarded with Best Employee Prize alongside Rs. 25,555 cash prize.
Meanwhile, nine reporters from across the country were announced winners of the Active Journalism Prize. Two Kathmandu-based reporters and seven from each province would receive the prize.
Among the Valley correspondents, Aashish Mishra of The Rising Nepal and Bhauch Prasad Yadav of Gorkhapatra received the prize.
According to Tara Basyal, spokesperson for the corporation, Mahendra Bista from province-1, Dhirendra Shah from province-2, Baburam Sharma from Bagmati, Tara Chapagain Dube from Gandaki, Deepak Gyawali from Lumbini, Kamal Sharma from Karnali and Gokarna Dayal from Sudurpaschim were the winners of the prize.
Shreedhar Acharya, Acting Chief Editor of the Gorkhapatra Daily announced the names of the prize winners at a small function organised at the corporation’s central office on Friday on the occasion of the Gorkhapatra anniversary.
The corporation will hand over the prizes at a programme, which will be held after the situation gets normal, Basyal said.
