Electricity supply has reached Gotamkot, a remote village of Rukum West, for the first time. Locals were happy when electricity service reached Gotamkot in Aathbiskot Municipality-5.

Nanni Basnet of Rimka village said that she was very happy when the electricity service reached even in her remote village.”I didn’t think that electricity would come to our village and the house would be lit up,” said Basnet. “Now the dark village has become bright.”

Basnet said that the villagers were happy to light the lamp in front of those who did not believe that electricity would come even to such a place.Nine hundred households of Aathbiskot Municipality-5 were deprived of electricity service so far.

Those who could afford to invest used solar energy, while those who could not depended on oil lamps. Now the central transmission line is connected to the village. Ward chairman Ghanshyam Bhandari said that after years of hard work, the villagers were happy when the electricity line was extended.

Due to the lack of electricity, the daily life of the common people here was uncomfortable.Bhandari informed that they managed to light the lamp in the village by installing electricity poles and pulling electric wires day and night regardless of the rain.

He said that after successfully testing the lights on the transmitter connected to the village, the work is being done by connecting the meters to the local houses and turning on the electricity.Rabi KC, mayor of Aathbiskot Municipality, said that Aathbiskot is moving ahead to make a bright municipality.

He said that the municipality is taking initiatives for rural electrification and there is a plan to extend the central transmission line to all the wards of the municipality.”We are extending electricity services to all villages. For this, we are coordinating with the Nepal Electricity Authority, we will make our municipality a bright municipality,” he said.

Electricity service has reached in ward numbers 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 of the municipality, while line extension work is underway in other wards. He claimed that electricity will be supplied in the remaining wards within a year.
