Government Recommends Sharma For Army Chief


The government Thursday decided to recommend to the President for the promotion of Lieutenant General and Acting Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhu Ram Sharma to the post of General before his appointment as the Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS), the four-star general of Nepali Army.

A meeting of the Council of Minister held at Singha Durbar this evening decided to promote Lt. General and Chief of General Staff (CGS) Sharma of the Nepali Army to the rank of General and appoint him to the post. The government also decided to approve the Military Service Fourth Amendment Rules-2078 BS.

Talking to journalists after the Cabinet meeting, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the meeting decided to grant public leave to the Newar community people across the country including the Kathmandu Valley on Monday (August 23) on the occasion of Gaijatra festival.

Similarly, the Cabinet decided to grant public holiday on August 30 to mark Krishna Janmashtami, said Minister Karki, who is also the government spokesperson.
The Cabinet meeting also decided to use 5.22 hectares of additional forest area in Kalbhairab ​​Community Forest and Gaurishankar Community Forest in Makwanpur district to construct various ancillary structures required for the Kathmandu-Terai-Madhesh Expressway Project and to cut some trees there. Similarly, Joint Secretary Dilliram Sharma has been promoted to a special class and approved the resignation tendered by Executive Chairman of Nepal Television Dr. Mahendra Bista.

He also informed that the Cabinet promoted some senior engineers of the Ministry of Irrigation and Energy from the second class to the first class officer.
Meanwhile, the government’s spokesperson Minister Karki, however, said nothing about the recommendation of new name for the post of Bagmati Province Chief which has remained vacant after the government relieved Bishnu Prasad Prasain of the responsibility.
