Govt. fixes floor price of rice paddy after five months delay

Nepal government has fixed the minimum support price of rice paddy.

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock informed that a quintal of Japonica (Mota Dhan) paddy will cost Rs 2,967 and the long grain paddy will cost Rs 3,128 for the fiscal year 2022-23, as per the decision of the Council of Ministers.

The support price of paddy has increased by Rs. 226 this year as compared to the last fiscal year. The government-owned Food Management and Trade Company will purchase the rice as per the support price.

In the current fiscal year, the company aims to buy 300,000 metric tonnes of rice.

Similarly, the government has allocated Rs 330 million for purchasing rice through agriculture cooperatives at the support price.

With changing government and political conflict, the government delayed fixing the minimum price by at least five months, as per ministry sources.
