Nepal government has transferred Rs 3 billion to the Sajha Yatayat account as its investment towards buying a new set of electric buses. The amount was allocated in the new budget, which effectively started from Shrawan 1.
The cooperative in conjunction with the state 3 government, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and Lalitpur Metropolitan City has agreed to buy the new electric buses with the purposes of proper management of public transportation, and minimizing air population.
Sajha Yatayat’s manager Mahendra Raj Pandey confirmed the transfer sent by the government few days ago. The cooperative has planned to purchase 300 electric buses with the money.
The decision to buy the electric buses, besides focusing on sustainable practices also comes after evaluating the costs between electric buses and diesel-run buses – using electric buses comparatively reduces the expenditure, thereby reducing public transportation fare.
