Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand Tuesday said that the government decided to withdraw its decision to give a two-day weekly off because of its impracticality experienced in different public institutions.
Speaking at a press conference organised to make the decisions of the Cabinet meeting held on June 7 public at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Home Minister Khand said that the government decided to revoke the decision made earlier to implement the two-day public holiday in a week as it became impractical in academic, health and other government institutions.
Home Minister Khand, who is also handling the portfolio as Communication Minister in the absence of Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, made the Cabinet decisions public today.
The decision to revoke the two-day weekly off would come into effect from June 15, 2022, according to the Cabinet decision. The provision to give a two-day public holiday on Saturday and Sunday was implemented on trial, Minister Khand said. The decision of two-day off had come into force from May 15 last month.

The Cabinet meeting held on June 6 promoted five Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Nepal Police to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG). The promoted DIGs included Uttam Raj Subedi, Arun Kumar B.C. Dibesh Lohani, Mukunda Raj Acharya and Pooja Singh. The government has also decided to relieve General Manager of Nepal Airlines Corporation Dim Prasad Paudel.
The erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government had appointed Paudel as the General Manager of the NAC for four years.
Earlier, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had sought clarification from Paudel. The government had recalled Paudel to the Ministry saying that he was working against the norms and values of the NAC. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale had recommended the government to sack Paudel saying that he was working against the interest of the Corporation.
The government has also promoted Saraju Kumar Baidya to the post of secretary under Nepal Engineering Service.
