The government has decided to accept USD 60 million loan assistance offered by the World Bank Group’s International Development Association.
Government Spokesperson and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki informed about the decision made by the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Official residence in Singha Durbar on Monday.
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors on June 11 had approved the US $60 million to improve the quality of Nepal’s higher education, scale-up online learning, and expand access to academic institutions for underprivileged and vulnerable students.
Similarly, Monday’s Cabinet meeting also decided to bear the quarantine expenses of Nepalis, who have been deported or released from foreign jails, upon arrival at home.
According to Minister Karki, the Ministry of Labour will make necessary arrangements for the expenditure and the Ministry of Finance would disburse the required amount.
The Cabinet meeting has also decided to create 35 temporary posts for the central offices of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and 21 posts for the provincial headquarters of the same Commission.
Similarly, 23 temporary posts will be created for the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP). The tenure of such temporary employees will be automatically revoked as soon as the terms of the Commissions expire, informed Minister Karki.
The Cabinet meeting also approved the National Debt Fifth Amendment Regulation-2078 BS and Loan Priority and Second Market Third Amendment Regulation-2078.
Likewise, the government decided to extend the time duration of different contracts with suppliers, constructions, projects, service providers or consultants, which had been inked before the enforcement of the prohibition orders across the country on April 29 or within the prohibitory period as their works had been stalled due to the second wave of COVID-19.
