The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) has decided to confiscate newly printed school textbooks with old map of Nepal.
The ministry decided that after it found some publishers had printed the country’s old map in the textbooks for the new academic session, scheduled to start from next week.
Addressing the 88th meeting of the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), MoEST Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha on Wednesday directed the concerned authority to confiscate such books immediately. He also directed senior officials of the Centre and police administration to bring publishers as well as sellers of such books into account and take necessary action.
At the meeting, MoEST Secretary Ram Prasad Thapaliya expressed his commitment to taking strict action against those selling such books.
Director General of the Centre Ana Prasad Neupane said that it had already started taking action against such publishers after it received information about them.
However, some publishers are found selling last year’s textbooks by putting new covers on them. Mainly textbooks of social education and general knowledge are such books, it has been found.
At the meeting, Minister Shrestha also instructed the listed publishers to print enough books, mainly of Grade XI, so that they are not in short supply. The meeting has also approved new syllabus of various subjects for Grade VI-VIII.
