Govt will decide on Guthi Bill: PM


Kathmandu, June 18

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a discussion with people’s representatives of his party on the disputed Guthi (Trust) Bill on Monday.

Prime Minister Oli, who is also the chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), invited the members of the House of Representatives and National Assembly, State Assembly members, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Ward Chairpersons elected from his part in the Kathmandu Valley for the discussion.
At a time when the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley has been vehemently opposing the proposed Bill through street protests, Prime Minister Oli held the discussion with the representatives of his own party on the contents of bill.
People of the Kathmandu Valley have taken to the street against the bill when Prime Minister Oli was in his Europe tour. He returned home from a week long Europe visit on Sunday and assured the media people at the Tribhuvan International Airport to correct the mistakes if there were any in the proposed Guthi Bill.
On the occasion, Upper House member Dinanath Sharma, Lower House members Pampha Bhusal, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Mahesh Basnet, Jiwan Ram Shrestha and Anjana Bishankhe, among others, had expressed their views on the Bill.
Similarly, Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya also aired his opinion on the issue.
Following the representatives voiced their views; Prime Minister Oli said that he was holding consultations and the government would soon take an appropriate decision on the issue.
