Healthcare workers land in soup for charging money for COVID jabs

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday arrested two health workers from Janakpur for allegedly soliciting bribes from the public for administering vaccines against COVID-19.

The vaccines are provided free of cost by the government.

According to CIAA, Ajay Kumar Shah, a health assistant working at the Mahottari Health Post, had employed Krishna Kumar Yadav, a student studying as Health Assistant, and demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 each from the service recipients for administering the anti-COVID jabs.

Officers from CIAA’s Tangal team arrested the duo with the bribe amount from New Bus Park of Janakpur Sub-Metropolis-7.

The duo were reportedly administering J&J vaccine in return for Rs 20,000 per jab.
CIAA Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Risal said that further investigation into the case was underway.
