Timely monsoon rains have made it easier for the farmers of Humla to begin paddy plantation works in time this year.
Pandavi Hamal of Kharpunath Rural Municipality-4 said that planting of marsi paddy has been progressing rapidly in the district.
It has been easier to plant paddy this year as it has been raining continuously, and the farmers do not have to face any problem to irrigate their farms, she said.
She said that the farmers have been busy planting paddy from early in the morning to evening despite continuous rainfall as it was time to plant paddy.
Hamal said that paddy planation was delayed last year in lack of rains, but this year the rainfall was enough to plant paddy in time.
Juneli Mahatara of Unapani village in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-3 also said that timely rainfall made them easier to plant paddy.
Mahatara said that all the farmers in Ratapani Jiula were busy planting paddy.
“Had there not been regular rainfalls, only three to four households could have been planting paddy a day at this time,” she added.
She said that all farmers of entire villages were receiving enough water from local canals to prepare fields to plant rice.
According to Netra Shahi, agriculture technician of Simkot Rural Municipality, plantation of marsi paddy has started in Humla district.
Paddy is cultivated in 580 hectares of land in Humla district. About 25 per cent of the paddy plantation has completed so far, according to the Agriculture Development Office.
