Humla students suspected of having chickenpox

Students living in a school hostel in Humla district are suspected of having chickenpox disease. The students of Mahabaudhha Secondary School of Namkha Rural Municipality-4 have shown symptoms of chikenpox.

According to Prem Bahadur Singh, head of the Health Service Office, the suspected chickenpox has spread among 57 students of the school. He said that the symptoms of the disease in the students completely match with those of chickenpox.

The students have blisters all over their face, body and arms, said Singh. As per the symptoms shown by all the students, it seems to be chickenpox, he added.

A team of physicians have arrived at school to collect samples for testing and treatment , said Singh. He said that it will be officially confirmed after examination by a doctor.

“We have kept sick students in isolation and have informed the World Health Organisation and Disease Control Section about the situation of the students.”

Sarita Bohara, senior ANM of the hospital, said that as it is a contagious disease, it may be transmitted to other people.

Dharmaraj Neupane, chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, said that the rural municipality was in favour of closing school after confirmation of chickenpox by the doctor.

“We need to close school to control the spread of disease,” said Neupane.
