Illegal Import, Smuggling Continue In Banke


Despite tightening of security at all checkpoints, including the main Nepal-India border checkpoint, due to COVID-19, illegal imports and smuggling are being continued.
Police said that they have been seizing large quantities of goods entering Nepal through the main checkpoints and side checkpoints evading the customs.

Banke Police Chief Shyam Krishna Adhikari said an investigation was underway into how illegal imports and smuggling were taking place despite the tightening security at the checkpoint.
Banke police have taken under control 44 goats and electrical items smuggled from India lately.

According to Banke police spokesperson DSP Madhusudan Neupane, the police team deployed from the Area Police Office, Dhanauli, seized 44 goats, including a truck carrying goats.
The arrested truck driver Deepak Rana, 20, of Banke Kohalpur-14, has been sent to Nepalgunj Customs Office for necessary action, he said.

Similarly, a police team deployed from the District Police Office, Banke, seized illegally imported electronic goods worth Rs. 59,000 by Samsudin Shesh, 24, of India at Nepalgunj-16 and sent him to the Customs Office for necessary action.
Similarly, clothes, motor parts and other items brought illegally from India are also being seized on a daily basis, said DSP Neupane.
