Lal Bir Chaudhary, independent candidate for the House of Representatives (HoR) election from the Bardiya electoral constituency-2, has secured a win by defeating his rival from the ruling alliance by 136 votes.
The 67-year-old independent candidate obtained 26,520 votes against 26,384 by Suresh Pantha of the CPN (Maoist Centre), the common candidate of the alliance.
Similarly, CPN (UML)’s Pankaj Singh Rathaur received 16,090 followed by 13,292 Binaya Rawal from the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party.
The elected Chaudhary is the father of Resham Chaudhary and he fielded his independent candidacy after the candidacy of Resham on behalf of the Nagarik Unmukti Party got invalidated. He had the support of the party in the election.
Meantime, towards the Province Assembly elections in Bardiya-1, Bhwaneshwor Tharu of Nepali Congress has emerged victorious from the Province Assembly (2) by receiving 16,475 votes as against 16,384 by Shalik Ram Adhikari of CPN (UML). (RSS)
