Janak Education Materials’ Centre (JEMC) stated that it has completed the printing of textbooks for the new academic session as it had estimated. According to JEMC it has printed 18,000,000 textbooks for this academic session which is 10 per cent higher than last academic session.
Though the JEMC has stated that it has completed the printing of required textbooks, some schools from across the country are still complaining that they have been facing trouble in teaching and learning in lack of textbooks.
According to our Inaruwa correspondent, community schools in Sunsari have been facing huge problems after the government has failed to make textbooks available in time.
Children have been deprived from their right to education as textbooks have not been available in time. According to Satyanarayan Mehata, headmaster of Balmandir Secondary School of Inaruwa Municipality-2, teachers and students both are facing trouble in lack of textbooks.
Mainly, students of grade four and grade seven in community schools have complained that they do not have essential books until now. There are problems even for other grades too.
Regarding the trouble still faced about the textbooks by schools, Chitra Acharya, spokesperson of the JEMC, said that the JEMC is also really surprised with shortage of textbooks though it has printed 10 per cent more textbooks than the textbooks sold last years.
Acharya said the JEMC sold 16,600,000 textbooks last year and it has printed 18,000,000 textbooks this year.
Acharya further said they are highly facing the demands of Nepali, English and Hamro Serofero. It may be because many private schools have also used the textbooks of JEMC mandatorily from this year. He also stated that less textbooks may have been sold last year also because of COVID-19.
Due to that, the centre has been printing more textbooks on the basis of demand this year, Acharya said.
The JEMC has been asking with schools to report shortage of required textbooks through regional offices of the centre. But, schools report to the media about textbook shortage rather than demand with the centre, Acharya complained. He said that the centre will deliver textbooks in required number within seven days they receive the report.
