The Kailali District Court has sentenced Resham Lal Chaudhary and 10 others to life imprisonment finding them guilty in the Tikapur incident, which occurred three and half years ago.
Sharing the information yesterday about the court order related to the Tikapur incident, record keeper at the District Court, Indra Bahadur Kathayat said that life imprisonment was slapped on Hari Narayan Chaudhary, Raj Kumar Kathariya, Sundar Lal Kathariya, Brij Mohan Dagaura, Rajesh Chaudhary, Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, Pradeep Chaudhary, Sitaram Chaudhary, Shrawan Chaudhary, Gangaram Dagaura and Resham Lal Chaudhary as per the provisions of the Muliki Ain (Civil Code).
According to the court, Shrawan has been sentenced only 10 years in prison as he is a minor.
The bench of District Judge, Parshuram Bhattarai sentenced three years of jail term to Laxman Tharu (Chaudhary), Lahuram Chaudhary, Ram Kumar Kathariya, Santaram Chaudhary, Jit Bahadur Dagaura aka Bishram, Kishanlal Chaudhary, Dil Bahadur Chaudhaty, Santosh Tharu Chaudhary, Chunni Ram Chaudhary and Ram Prasad Chaudhary.
Of them, Chunniram would be released from jail on March 14 while others would be released from jail today as they have already spent three years in jail.
Likewise, Tahabar Ali Jaga, Bishram Chaudhary and Ram Naresh Chaudhary got clean chit from the court.
Reshamlal was elected to the post of member of the House of Representatives from the constituency no 1 in Kailali in 2017 on the Rastriya Janata Party’s ticket. He had edged out his contender with a wide margin of votes.
He was relocated to the Central Jail from the jail in Kailali and was recently sworn in as the Member of Parliament.
Hearing on the Tikapur incident had started from February 27 while the Court pronounced the verdict today. Of the 58 defendants, 31 were still absconding while 27 were remanded to custody for further investigations.
An infant and eight police personnel were killed in a clash between the protesters and the security forces that occurred on August 27, 2015 at Tikapur of Kailali. The cadres of Tharuhat/Tharuwan State were locked in a clash with the security personnel.
