Kathmandu Abandons Odd-Even System In Transport

The odd and even number plate system in operation of transport in the Kathmandu Valley has been terminated.

A meeting of the District Security Committee, the district-based COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee, the transport entrepreneurs and representatives of the stakeholder bodies on Thursday decided to do away with the odd-even number system in operation of vehicles.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Kali Prasad Parajuli said this decision has been taken in view of the complaints from various business houses, industries and factories that operation of vehicles according to the odd-even number plate system has affected the economic activities as well as increase in risk due to the passenger pressure owing to the fewer number of public transport vehicles in operation.

The government implemented the odd and even system in Kathmandu Valley from September 17 for reducing the crowd for the effective prevention and control of COVID-19.
