KMC Mayor instructs teachers, staffers to not affiliate in party politics


Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has instructed government teachers and employees to not be affiliated with party politics. Issuing a public notice, Shah asked them to renounce their party affiliation immediately or face consequences.

KMC Mayor Shah has also requested information via email if any teacher or staffer is believed to be associated in party politics.

Stating that clause (c) of sub-section (2) of section 14 of the Political Parties Act, 2016, stipulates that no political party shall grant membership to incumbent professors, teachers or employees of institutions owned or controlled by the Nepal government, provincial government or local level.

Similarly, section 45 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Employee Service Act, 2021, states that employees are not allowed to join political parties or organizations, engage in political activities or participate in any other political activities.

Earlier, the Election Commission had also warned that government teachers and staffers for the same.
