Construction of a section of the Postal Highway at Bodebarsain in Saptari district is stuck due to the negligence of Bodebarsain Municipality in resolving the land-related disputes.
The national pride road project is facing land disputes at the 300 meters stretch from Area Police Office in the east to Shatrughan Chowk in the west.
Construction work is not started in this part of the road while the part east of Shatrughan Chowk and west of the police office is completed and the road there is blacktopped.
A wall of the burial ground in the municipality’s market area has obstructed the construction while concerned people don’t want it to be taken down. People in the market say that the local body did not pay any attention to resolve the crisis.
Devendra Dahal, a construction entrepreneur, said that the wall which is 1.5 meters falls in the way of the road. A case related to it is subjudice at the court. He underscored the activism of the municipality and ward office in resolving the constraint.
Mayor of Bodebarsain Municipality Atesh Kumar Singh Yadav said that although the local body tried to resolve the problem, people having concerns with the burial ground did not allow breaking the wall.
He said that the municipality is waiting for the court’s decision. Rauta Shrestha Diwa JV had accepted the tender to construct the road with the deadline of the last fiscal year. But it couldn’t complete the work within the stipulated time and a 6-month extension was given to the company. However, the extension period also came to an end in January this year.
