With the onset of monsoon in Nepal, natural calamities triggered by heavy rainfall have increased in several locations of the country.
The flood in Dordi river of Dordi rural municipality, Lamjung has washed away 15 houses in Hilebazar as of Wednesday. It has damaged four electricity poles, resulting in disruption of electricity and phone communication, as per Ward Chairman Tul Bahadur Ghale.
He informed that the suspension bridge over the Dordi River was also damaged due to the flood.
Meanwhile, police have rescued four people trapped in the Rapti River due to incessant rains.
Manaram Chaudhary, 48, of Lamahi-7, Sabitra Yadav, 45, of Rajpur-2, Radhe Yadav, 26, of Rajpur-2, and Ganesh Yadav, 26, of Rajpur-3 was stranded in the Rapti River since Tuesday night.
A team of 25 people, including nine members of the Armed Police Force, Bhaluwang and 16 members of the Armed Police Camp, Lamahi, rescued them on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, floods and landslides have wreaked havoc in Helambu and Melamchi areas of Sindhupalchowk district.
Likewise, Minister of Health and Population Sher Bahadur Tamang, a lawmaker elected from Sindhupalchowk, shared the news of more than 50 people missing in the floods.
“Over 50 people are missing in the Melamchi and Indrawati rivers’ flooding. The floods have also caused damages to the dam in Melamchi drinking water project, Timbu Bazaar, Chanaute Bazaar, Talamarang Bazaar and Melamchi Bazar. Additionally, Nakote bridge, Timbu bridge, Phatte bridge, Melamchi bridge, Bahunepati bridge have been swept away by the floods,” Minister Tamang wrote on his Facebook page.
A Nepal Army team in a helicopter rescued those trapped on the roof of houses in Melamchi Bazaar with the help of ropes.
Similarly, floods and landslides have hit more than 12 places in Gulmi district while many houses are at risk due to floods and roads have been blocked.
A person died after being swept by a landslide in Basudevi-3, Doti. The deceased has been identified as 65-years-old Khadak Bahadur Bam.
According to Doti locals, two girls were also injured in the landslide.
