Locals of Tumkot village at Namkha Rural Village-5 in Humla district have been compelled to walk for at least two hours to fetch drinking water from a nearby stream as the source of water and the pipes that supplied water to their village taps have been swept away by the landslides.
Chhimjok Lama, a resident of Tumkot, said that it has been a day-long work for a member of the family for over two weeks to fetch water since the source of water got washed away.
Members of the 25 households of the village go in a group to fetch water from the stream, which in most cases is diluted with mud.
It has been only a few months that the drinking water project that brought water to the households got completed with joint investment of the local level and the villagers’ consumer group.
