Maghi Festival begins at Tuindikhel from Today


The Maghi Festival-2079, national festival of Tharu community, is going to be organised at Tuindikhel from today (January 14).

Twenty-four organisations with the coordination of Tharu Welfare Assembly Central Committee are organising the two-day festival. Tharu cultural processions, handicrafts, traditional goods, book exhibition and motorcycle rally are the events as part of the Maghi festival.

Similarly, various individuals for their special contribution in different sectors would be honoured in the festival.

Coordinator of the main organising committee, Premi Lal Chaudhary, said special food items prepared in Maghi festival—dhikri, khichari, ghongi, sakkarkhanda — as well as other Tharu food would be kept in the festival. Preparation is on to perform various dances like maghauta, sakhiya, jhumra, chhokra, ragani hori on the occasion.

The motorcycle rally would be organised from Koteshwor to Bhrikutimandap on Saturday. Similarly, a programme will be held at Basantapur on January 15. (RSS)
