Mahindra Launches Electric Three-Wheeler

Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, part of the Mahindra Group, has launched a Lithium-ion-powered electric three-wheeler auto called Treo in Nepal Tuesday.
The Mahindra Treo Auto ‘Soft Top’ variant has been introduced at Rs. 840,000, the company said.
The Mahindra Treo comes to Nepal through the Completely Build Unit (CBU) form. The vehicle is being manufactured at Mahindra’s Bengaluru facility in India. Agni Energy, Mahindra’s authorised EV distributor will sell the Treo in Nepal.

With use of Mahindra Treo, customers could save a significant of Rs. 200,000 yearly compared to petrol autos, the company claimed.
Speaking at the launching function, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal stressed on the need for increasing the use of electric vehicles even for public transportation as the country was able to generate power required for domestic consumption.

“The government has given priority to the use of electric vehicles. Use of electric vehicles and cooking stoves could help to reduce the widening trade deficit by reducing the import of petroleum products, including cooking gas,” she said.
She said that the use of green energy would also help to minimise the impact of climate change.

The introduction of electric three wheeler Treo auto would support increased electricity consumption and make the youth self-employed, she said, and urged all to focus on the manufacture of electric vehicles in the days to come.
On the occasion, Suman Mishra, CEO of Mahinda Electric Mobility said, “Nepal is a fast-developing economy, with eco-friendliness as well as long-term sustainability on its agenda. With the government of Nepal promoting electric vehicles, the time is just right for us to launch our range of electric three wheelers here.”

The Treo is comfortable on rough roads owing to hydraulic shock absorber in the front and rigid axle with leaf spring at the rear.
