Man arrested 12 years after committing a murder

Nepal Police has arrested a murder convict who had been absconding since past 12 years after killing his cousin brother at Ghorahi-19, Dang.

Prem Bahadur Rana, was convicted of murdering his uncle’s son Surya Bahadur Rana, 32, by Dang District Court and sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2010 but Prem had fled.

Prem, along with the deceased’s wife Bindu Rana, had killed Surya Bahadur in order to hide their illegitimate physical relationship.

Surya Bahadur used to work as a foreign employee in Qatar and during his two-year abroad job, Surya Bahadur’s wife and his cousin brother Prem had physical relationship.

However, after Surya Bahadur returned Nepal, both of them planned to kill him and throw him off a cliff to maintain their illicit relationship.

On the fifth day of Surya Bahadur’s arrival, his wife offered him heavy dose of local intoxicant ‘Dhaturo’, mixed with the local booze. After he dozed off, Prem Bahadur strangled his elder brother to death, as per his confession at the court.

Both of them had then taken the body to a nearby jungle and thrown it off the cliff to make it seem like an accident. However, post-mortem report showed Surya Bahadur died from asphyxiation and police took Surya’s wife as a primary suspect where she unfolded the crime.

However, Prem was able to escape police clutches after he was sentenced for 20 years’ life imprisonment.

Following his arrest by Thimi police after 12 years, the convict was taken to Bhaktapur District Court and eventually sent to Central Jail to complete his tenure inside the prison.
