Man arrested for raping and murdering 10-year-old daughter; 11 cases of rape reported in last one week

The Area Police Office in Lamki of Kailali district arrested a 60-year-old man on the charge of raping and murdering his 10-year-old daughter.

According to the preliminary investigation by police, the man – a permanent resident of Lamkichuha Municipality-8 — had raped his daughter in a buffalo shed on June 10.

Fearing that his heinous crime would be out in the open, he killed his daughter by hanging her in the same buffalo shed the same day.

The man and his family had later tried to portray that the minor child had committed suicide.

According to Kailali Police Spokesperson Pratik Bista, the family was preparing to cremate the child when police arrested the man.

Upon receiving a tip off regarding the girl’s suspicious death, a police team from Lamki had reached the cremation site and sent the body of the deceased for autopsy.

Bista said that the father was arrested after the autopsy result gave them enough reason to suspect the minor’s cause of death.

The autopsy conducted at Seti Provincial Hospital revealed that the girl had been raped before being killed, said Bista. Police arrested the father on June 13 as the main suspect in the case.

“Our investigation revealed that the father had tried to hide the incident by portraying it as a suicide case,” said Bista.
