A model farm has been set up in Devghat Rural Municipality of Tanahun district to produce organic agricultural products.
For the first time in Nepal, a model organic farm has been set up in 60 ropanis of land in Devghat Rural Municipality-1. For the operation of the farm, the farmers have been given experimental training in organic farming and skills in producing compost manure and green manure.
The farm has been set up to conserve and produce all kinds of indigenous crops in the area and to produce organic food grains, vegetables, herbs and fruits, said Romlal Giri, president of the Consumer Protection Federation.
Giri said that Nepal’s first and model organic farm has been set up in Devghat to identify and use 8,000 types of food in collaboration with the Organic Agriculture Mission Committee and Integrated Agriculture Model.
The farmers of the area have been given nine days of experimental training on organic farming organised by the Integrated Agriculture Model Centre with the support of Devghat Rural Municipality.
Speaking at the concluding programme, Devghat Rural Municipality Chairman Durga Bahadur Thapa said that organic production was important for human health. Chairman of Devghat Rural Municipality-1 Bhim Bahadur Gurung said that the organic farming model farm has been set up in the area for the first time in Nepal and the farmer’s economic status could be enhanced by increasing organic production and market management.
Chairman of the Organic Agriculture Mission Committee Dev Bahadur Gurung said that they can now work on farms and engage in organic farming.
