MoF expedites budget preparation


The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has expedited preparations for the budget of the coming fiscal year 2022/23.

As per the constitutional provision, the budget must be made public on Jestha 15, the MoF has started discussions with various ministries in the presence of the National Planning Commission since Thursday.

The MoF has discussed the budget with three ministries – Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Water Supply, and Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport – separately in a single day on Thursday, said a press statement of the ministry.

The MoF has scheduled holding discussions with the ministries about the policy and programs included in the budget for April 26, 2022.

A meeting is scheduled with the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development for Friday.

Similarly, the MoF is poised to hold discussions with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Health and Population, and Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration on Sunday.

A meeting is scheduled with the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, and Ministry of Youth and Sports for Monday. Discussions to be held with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, and Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation are scheduled for Tuesday.

The MoF had started to collect suggestions from the various sectors, including experts, and economists in mid-March for the preparation of the budget. The MoF has also brought toll-free number 1138 into operation in an effort to address the budget problems by collecting suggestions from experts and representatives of the concerned sectors. Encouraging suggestions have also been received from the number, said the MoF.
