MoHP Urges Hospitals To Reserve 20 Percent Beds For Children


The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has urged all hospitals to separate 20 percent of their beds and manage medical oxygen for minors for the treatment of children found positive for COVID-19.

Issuing a press statement on Friday, the health ministry stressed that children will be at high risk if the third and fourth wave hits the country so the focus must be shifted to children centric arrangements to provide them with optimal treatment of COVID-19.

“All the medical arrangements amid the first and second wave have been targeted for the elderlies and the youths for it was maintained as a high-risk group. However, if the third and fourth wave hits the country then children will be at high risk so the arrangements must be children-centric”, read the press statement.

According to the data of MoHP, as many as 1701 children of 0- 20 age group and 5518 children of 11-20 age group were infected with SARS-CoV-2 in last two weeks alone.   A total of 75 children from the 0-10 age group and 353 children from the 10-20 age group were detected with the virus in the first two weeks of April when the second wave of COVID-19 swept across the country.
