Movie on Khalangama Hamala to be made


A movie will be made on Khalangama Hamala, the Madan Puraskar winning novel of Radha Poudel.

The film based on Poudel’s novel will be directed by Binod Bista. The book is based on the attack by Maoists in Khalanga, Jumla, during the Maoist insurgency about two decades ago. Director Bista has said that the clash between the Maoists and the Nepali Army at Khalanga was one of the unforgettable battle and people are still curious to know about it.

He said that the people were curious to know what had happened to Khalanga that night and he would show that in the film in a special way.

The film was formally announced at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Writer Poudel said that she gave permission to make a film on her book as she trusted Bista who has already made a film on Jhamak Kumari Ghimire’s book Jeevan Kanda Ki Phool.

Director Bista said that he had read many books after making a film Jiwan Kada Ki Phool, and finally Khalanga Ma Hamala touched his heart. Director Bista informed that the cast of the film is yet to be decided.

He said that a budget of Rs. 30 million will be required for the production of the film. He said that he only wanted that the film reaches the general audience, he had not intended to make profit.

The cast will be made public along with the production team of the film soon, said director Bista.
