National Assembly Election Today

CPN (UML) Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday urged the party members to cast vote for Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal in the May 20 election for the National Assembly seat in Bagmati Province.
Issuing an appeal on behalf of the party just a day ahead of the by-election, Prime Minister Oli asked party members to stand behind Thapa, citing that he is the official candidate of UML and a senior figure of the communist movement.
The appeal states, “Ram Bahadur Thapa is our party’s candidate for election to the vacant post of National Assembly member from Bagmati Province. He is a senior leader of the communist movement in Nepal. His victory will also foster the sentimental unification of the communist movement.”
“Therefore, I urge you to unite and make your party’s candidate victorious in this election,” said Chairman Oli.
Three candidates are contesting the election in Bagmati Province. Earlier, on May 7, Minister Thapa had registered his candidacy for the National Assembly seat on behalf of ruling CPN-UML.
Kim Lal Devkota has also filed his candidacy as a common candidate from Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal.
Similarly, Krishna Bahadur Tamang is the third candidate from Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) contesting for the seat.
Likewise, Chairman Oli has urged the party members to cast their votes in favour of the UML candidate in the upcoming election for the vacant post of National Assembly member in Lumbini.
Likewise, General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel has also issued instructions to the people’s representatives on behalf of the party to cast votes in favour of Thapa.
Chairman Oli has discussed the special significance of this election which is going to be held after the re-establishment of the CPN-UML on March 7, 2008.
