NC Elections Today, Five In Fray For Party President


The central representatives of the Nepali Congress assembled in Kathmandu for the 14th general convention of the party will be standing in queues at Bhrikutimandap from early morning on Monday to cast their vote to the candidates of the party president, office-bearers and Central Working Committee members.
Polling stations have been set up at three places—City Hall (Rastriya Sabha Griha), the premises of Bhrikutimandap and the hall of Bhrikutimandap.
Arrangements have been made for 1,100 booths to facilitate the voting.

Altogether 4,743 central representatives are participating in the NC’s 14th general convention. NC general convention media centre coordinator Dr. Suresh Acharya informed that arrangements have been made for the CWC members, public relations committee members, representatives of the fraternal and well-wisher organisations, and Karnali and Lumbini provinces to cast their votes in the City Hall.

The voters of Province 2 and Gandaki will cast their vote on the premises of Bhrikutimandap while the delegates of the Province 1, Bagmati and Sudurpaschim will cast their votes in the hall of Brikutimandap, he said.
The Central Election Committee informed that 29 types of ballot papers would be provided for the election and separate ballot boxes will be kept for separate ballot papers.

The City Hall will have 203 booths, Bhrikutimandap premises 293 and Brikutimandap hall 514. Voting will take place from 8 am to 5 pm on Monday.
Meanwhile, the final name list of candidates of the office-bearers and CWC members was made public on Sunday.

The Election Committee said five candidates are now in the fray for the post of party president after one of the contenders, Youba Raj Neupane, withdrew his candidacy supporting another candidate Dr. Shekhar Koirala.
Now Prime Minister and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Dr. Koirala, vice president Bimalendra Nidhi, leaders Prakash Man Singh and Kalyan Gurung are contesting for the top party post.

For two posts of party vice presidents, incumbent vice president Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadhar, general secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, Sujata Koirala, Dhan Raj Gurung, Chandra Bhandari, Mahesh Acharya and Dibyashwori Shah are in race.
Incumbent joint general secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma, leader Pradeep Paudel, Dr. Minendra Rijal, Gagan Kumar Thapa and Dr. Raja Ram Karki are vying for the post of two general secretaries.

For the post of eight joint general secretaries under various categories, leaders Kamala Panta, Mahalaxmi Upadhaya ‘Dina’, Ganga Sunar, Jeeban Pariyar, Man Bahadur Bishwokarma, Bikash Lama, Bhishma Raj Angdambe, Kishor Singh Rathor, Dev Raj Chalise, Mahendra Yadav, Ranjit Karna, Ram Krishna Yadav, Ram Krishna Yadav, Shekha Wokil, Uma Kanta Chaudhari, Teju Lal Chaudhari, Chet Raj Bajal, Jiban Bahadur Shahi and Badri Pandey are in race. However, Surendra Prasad Chaudhari withdrew his candidacy for joint general secretary today.

After 60 leaders withdrew their candidacy, including one candidate of president and one joint general secretary, the Election Committee said that 491 leaders are now in race. Earlier on Saturday, 548 had filed their candidacy.
The committee informed that two CWC members from Province 2 were elected unopposed.
