NC Ward Convention Kicks Off

Nepali Congress president and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended his best wishes on the occasion of the formal beginning of the party’s 14th general convention.
Issuing a video message on Friday, Deuba said, “As we are constitutionally bound to organise the party’s general convention despite the risk of COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to request all leaders and party cadres to participate in the convention by adopting all health safety standards.”

The 14th general convention of the NC began formally on Friday by holding ward level convention.
Prime Minister Deuba expressed his happiness as over 800,000 active members of the NC were participating in the 14th convention.

“Our party has always been on the front to exercise democratic norms. NC, which has been leading every political movement of the country, is always the first in ensuring internal democracy within the party,” said Deuba.
He added that the internal competition within the party was the beauty of democracy.

He also requested everyone to participate in the convention through healthy competition, abiding by the democratic procedure.
“It is vital to strengthen NC to institutionalise the federal democratic republic system in the nation. The Nepali citizens have already realised that the nation’s development is possible only via strengthening the NC,” said party president Deuba, adding, “Thus, I would like to request everyone to give life to ‘Strong NC, Prosperous Country’ slogan.”  
He said that the responsibility to lead the nation was over NC’s shoulders due to the sacrifices and experiences of the party.          
He also thanked and congratulated everyone participating in the ward convention.

Meanwhile, issuing a press statement on Friday, Central Member of the NC Dr. Shekhar Koirala requested the party members and cadres to make the 14th general convention a success.
Along with the convention, the time has come for the NC to set up an organisational structure with new ideologies and leadership,” said Dr. Koirala.

He added that ensuring a healthy and decent competition within the party could take the image of the party to new heights at the national and international levels.
“The party convention can be made successful only by ending various factions existing within the party,” said Dr. Koirala, adding, “As the number of active members of the party has increased significantly, it is the responsibility of all NC cadres to expand the party’s organisational structure and make the convention a success.”

Meanwhile, party president Deuba reached Bhaktapur and inaugurated the ward level convention in Ward No. 4 of Madhyapur Municipality and in Ward No. 5 of Surya Binayak Municipality.
He also observed the ongoing convention in the two wards.
During the inspection visit, Deuba urged the party leaders and cadres to make the party stronger from the ward level and win the people’s confidence.
According to the Central Election Committee, the ward level general convention held in 41 districts on Friday.

Committee coordinator Mahadev Prasad Yadav said the ward level general convention in the remaining districts would be held by September 8.
Today, the ward level general convention held in Taplejung, Panchathar, Ilam, Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum, Bhojpur, Khotang, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Bhaktapur and Gorkha districts.

Likewise, the convention began in Lamjung, Tanahun, Kaski, Manang, Parbat, Syangja, Myagdi, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Arghakhachi, Rukum West, Jumla, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Bajhang, Doti, Achham and Kanchanpur.
The party had resolved the active membership row of 56 districts, and resolving the membership row in other 21 districts is under process. Yadav informed the committee was trying to hold ward level general convention in all 56 districts by September 8.

“If the active membership list is provided to the committee within one/two days, the committee will hold ward level general convention in the remaining 21 districts by September 11/12.
The ward general convention will elect the ward committee as well as constituency representatives. The constituency representatives participate in the general convention of party’s district, constituency and municipal levels. They are also voters to elect the party central general convention representatives and constituency committee, municipal committee and district committee representatives.
