NC Won’t Create Crowds In Party Convention: PM

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the NC would not opt for showing its strength by bringing people from Jhapa and Mahendranagar to its 14th general convention.
Talking to media persons at the Prime Minister’s official residence Baluwatar, on Monday, he said it was the duty of the government to protect citizens from the risk of COVID-19, as there was still high risk of coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Prime Minister Deuba said no crowd that creates a problem to the people would be gathered in the inaugural session of the party’s general convention.
“As the NC is a responsible party, we will not show strength by bringing citizens from Jhapa to Mahendranagar during its 14th general convention,” Prime Minister Deuba said while responding to a query of journalists whether his party was bringing workers from across the country as the CPN-UML did in Chitwan recently.

Prime Minister Deuba also informed that he would file his candidacy to the post of President for the next term in the 14th general convention of the NC that is scheduled for December 10-12 in Kathmandu. He said he would be filing candidacy for the last term as per the party’s statute. “This is my last opportunity to become party president as the party statute bars me from standing for the party president in the next general convention,” he reminded.

He said it would be good for the party and the country if he was elected for the second term and the present coalition government would continue until the upcoming elections.
Deuba said he was leading the coalition government so it was necessary for him to lead the party.
Deuba said that the electoral alliance among the ruling coalition partners would only be for the elections to the members of the National Assembly and discussions have yet to take place on continuing the electoral alliance for other elections.

Prime Minister Deuba said as the NC has upheld the principle of press freedom after he took the helm of the government it was not creating trouble to the media as the previous KP Sharma Oli-led government.
Meanwhile, NC leader Shekhar Koirala said he was contesting for party president with youth and inclusive team.
Stating majority of general convention central representatives are in his favour, Dr. Koirala said he wanted to be party president for one time to bring the party on track.

Talking with editors in Kathmandu, he said his faction had four aspirants and attempts were underway to forge consensus.
Dr. Koirala said Prakash Man Singh would contest for president, but efforts were underway to convince Ram Chandra Paudel and Dr. Shashank Koirala to help him.

Koirala further stated his agenda was to make NC number one pro-people party in the country, bring youth in leadership, end factionalism, and minimise election expenses.
