The 14th general convention of the ruling Nepali Congress is beginning here on Friday. The convention will elect a new leadership of the party for a term of four years.
Prime Minister and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba will inaugurate the general convention at Bhrikutimandap at 2 pm on Friday.
NC spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma said at a press meet held at the party office Sanepa of Lalitpur on Thursday that preparations for the party’s 14th general convention reached the final stage.
He said that the general convention would be inaugurated in a systematic and dignified way.
The party has prepared a podium at Bhrikuti Mandap for the inaugural session. The general convention venue has been decorated like a bride. The podium is said be big enough to accommodate 300 people at once.
According to NC Publicity and Podium Management sub-committee coordinator Govinda Pudasaini, 40 artists can perform in the first row while party’s senior leaders and leaders from other parties, and foreign delegates will sit in the second row. Party Central Working Committee members and guests will be seated in the third row.
On the either side of the podium, security personnel and health workers will be deployed and drinking water will be available. One thousand volunteers will be mobilised and ambulances will be placed standby.
The party has also managed a digital board to watch the inaugural session. Altogether 24 welcome gates, 14 big and 10 others, in the main junctions of Kathmandu and at the general convention venue.
Meanwhile, the last Central Working Committee meeting of the NC held ahead of the 14th general convention took various decisions related to the general convention.
The meeting held Thursday afternoon endorsed the political, organisational and economic reports to be submitted to the general convention.
NC Spokesperson Sharma informed that the meeting passed the general secretary’s organisational, treasurer’s audit and party’s policy and research reports. The economic report said the party has Rs.100 million in its stock.
The meeting also endorsed decisions of the Mahasamiti meeting regarding the party statute.
It was informed that representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress are confirmed to attend the convention.
Party’s senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, however, was not present in the meeting.
